{Book club} November '18

17:29

Okay yes, I know I’m late. My life’s been very busy and I didn’t have time to stop and write. ANYWAY.
This month’s book was After The End by Amy Plum.
As you already know, I love Amy, and this book didn’t disappoint.
Usually we discuss the book, and then skype the author. November was different since Amy was there. We got to talk about everything with her and it was so rewarding.
Amy wrote three series so far, and each are a different genre. It’s because she likes to challenge herself and try new things.
For her, every stories already exist, they’re just waiting to be written.

About the book:

For Amy, this book is about searching for truths in the world. Juneau discovers a new world she doesn’t know anything about, and she has to untangle everything to know the truth about it. After The End is also a way for Present Amy to show Past Amy the truth about her world.
The inspiration for this book came to Amy as a picture in her mind. It’s the one I put on the post. She then had to figure out who was this girl, what she was meant to do.
Amy created the “Yara”. All along the book, the Yara is vague, we discover it at the same time as Juneau. Amy likes to put chunk of information out instead of everything, so we’re still curious.
The Yara comes from the Carl Jung theory that there is a collective conscious. In a way, everybody is linked.
It also comes from the Gaia movement. It says that everything in the world (rocks, air, bones...) are part of the same organism.
We don’t know more about the Yara, at least in this book. It’s plausible magic.
Last thing about this book is the cliffhanger. Amy hates them, but she had to do it. After The End was supposed to be a one-shot, but her editor asked her for a duology.

Next month’s book will be Give the dark my love, by Beth Revis.
